Today is the 1st day of October, can you believe it?
2020 in all its rollercoaster glory has literally flew by, and I’m not ready. I love autumn its my favourite season as the leaves change and Halloween of course but mostly because it means I can pull back out my dark and vampy lipsticks. So to kick off October here is a run down of my favourite autumnal lipsticks because I LOVE a good autumnal lipstick!!
Over the years I have tested and collected many different lipstick formula’s and brands, and have managed to narrow them down to a handful of my holy grail everyday favourites.

Stay Matte Liquid Lipsticks - £6.49
The Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipsticks were quite possibly the very first liquid lipsticks I ever purchased and have remained a staple in my collection ever since. The doe foot applicator is rather elongated and tapers at the edge. The product itself is super pigmented, a little goes a long way with this one, it doesn’t bleed, crack or streak. It dries down matte but isn’t a quick drying product so you will need to avoid smudging it in the first few moments after application. My go-to autumnal shades are: Plum This Show, Urban Affair, Midnight and Damn Hot.
A few years ago after the success of the Matte Liquid Lipsticks , Satin formula’s made a bit of a comeback and the Stay Satin Liquid Lipsticks were Rimmel’s answer to the Satin trend. The doe foot applicator on the Stay Satin are much smaller and resemble a regular doe foot applicator compared to the Stay Matte. The Satin formula’s have a gorgeous shine to them so if you’re not into matte lipsticks then these may be the answer for you. Satin Formula’s generally sit somewhere between a matte and cream finish, they aren’t as creamy or glossy as cream finishes and are not as flat as matte finishes, making this a great compromise. My go-to autumnal shade’s are: Have a cow and Rad.
Les Chocolats - Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks - £9.99
Ok, these guys smell good enough to eat, literally just like chocolate. The doe foot applicator is shaped more like a heart and picks up a lot of product, they are long lasting and highly pigmented, they don’t bleed, streak or bunch. They are so comfortable to wear on the lips and being ‘chocolate’ themed they are all gorgeous nude shades. My go-to autumnal shades: 70% Yum and Cacao Crush.
Another variation of Matte Liquid Lipstick from L’Oreal but these ones are more red toned, with the same heart shaped doe foot applicator as the Les Chocolats collection. Again these are highly pigmented and long lasting, they don’t bleed, streak or bunch. They have a gorgeous shade range and I’m saddened that I haven’t had the chance to try out more shades but the one shade I do have is gorgeous. My go-to autumnal shade: I enjoy.
Yet another Matte Liquid Lipstick, I think it’s fair to say I may have a slight obsession, and yet another berry red shade, and I’m starting to realise I probably don’t need any more autumnal lipsticks and should definitely try to use up all my current ones before I purchase any more. But that probably won’t happen because well, they are just so pretty and none of them are the exact same shade… yet. Yes, these guys share the same traits as the products I have already mentioned above, they are highly pigmented, don’t bleed, bunch or streak but is probably the fastest drying formula of them all, and when it comes to taking this off, well, don’t expect it to be easy, this is probably the only formula which can be persistent even after cleansing, so be warned. My go-to autumnal shade is: Voyager.
Ok, switching it up to a different formula, the first and only cream finish to feature in my autumnal favourites. Nothing against cream finishes but it’s just the only cream formula I have in my entire collection. If you’re looking for something that has a great colour payoff but isn’t as pigmented as matte formula’s this one may be for you. It’s much softer on the lips, doesn’t dry down or dry out, doesn’t cling or streak or bleed or bunch and is probably the most comfortable formula to wear out my entire autumnal favourites. It’s not as long-lasting and easily transfers but otherwise is a great alternative to matte lipsticks. My go-to shade is: Budapest.
The only bullet lipstick on this list, I did have others but I can’t seem to find them listed online any more. VIP is a semi-matte lipstick, it doesn’t have the staying power of a liquid lipstick and definitely feels a lot more glossy on the lips than a liquid lipstick, and is prone to looking a lot patchier than a liquid lipstick. That being said it’s still comfortable and still has great colour payoff. My go-to autumnal shade is: Show off.
